playing is wonder, playing is being yourself, and more,
playing is the child.

games are rules

Because that’s what giraffes do.

I started photographing miniatures because I was entranced by their expressiveness as well as their crudeness and I was delighted by the inconsistencies of scale and the invitation to irrationality they presented. Because they are toys and small, these figures imply childhood and childish things but through the act of being photographed they lay claim to a world of their own—a whimsical, violent, oddball world which goes beyond imagination and fantasy into the realm where nothing can be taken literally and nothing can be known for certain.
